Harini FernandoLicensed Immigration Adviser
Born and raised in New Plymouth, Harini is a Kiwi of Sri Lankan background with a passion for Immigration Law, local New Zealand knowledge and no fear of pronouncing long names!
While she calls Taranaki home, she is no stranger to Wellington, having completed her Law and Psychology degrees at Victoria University of Wellington. After being admitted to the bar as a Solicitor and Barrister of the High Court in New Plymouth and practising Law (including some immigration work) in a law firm there, she returned to the Wellington region before leaving for an unconventional “OE” to Sri Lanka.
Harini spent 5 years working in Sri Lanka, teaching English and IELTS, and visa consulting. She worked with a leading visa consultancy in Colombo where she helped many clients apply for visas for other countries and student visas for New Zealand. Wanting to help more clients with the desire to migrate to her beautiful country, she completed the Graduate Certificate in New Zealand Immigration Advice to become a licensed immigration adviser.
Back in New Zealand she worked as a licensed adviser in Auckland under former Minister of Immigration. She assisted many clients with work, visitor and student visas and residence, and honed her legal writing skills in submissions to INZ and the Ombudsman, IPT appeals and refugee claims.
Having recently moved back to Wellington, she is enjoying being part of the team at Immigration Centre. She looks forward to meeting more clients, learning about their culture and languages, while helping them achieve their visa and migration dreams.
Outside of work, Harini enjoys music, particularly performing in and watching choirs and opera. She looks forward to returning to the music and arts scene in New Zealand’s coolest little capital.
