Here is the excerpt from the recent changes to immigration instructions:

1. Children aged 17 or under are no longer required to be totally or substantially financially dependent to be considered a ‘dependent child’.

2. Instructions regarding the mandatory requirements for lodging an application for a resident visa at an immigration control area (ICA) now include a reference to the automated electronic system (known as SmartGate).

3. Operational instructions on passenger responsibilities on arrival and departure now include references to people using the automated electronic system at an ICA.

4. Visa applications for diplomatic, consular and official staff and accompanying dependants may now be sent to the Protocol Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade or to an INZ office, regardless of whether the application is made from inside or outside New Zealand.

5. The minimum income threshold for religious workers intending to bring to New Zealand dependent children on student visas has been updated to align with recent changes to minimum income requirements.
